The Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) is a key supporting role for the Chief Financial & Operating Officer, assisting in managing the financial planning, organizing, controlling, and analyzing of Acero's financial services. The DCFO will work with the CFOO, Finance Committee, and key leadership to allocate resources aligned with programmatic, strategic, and financial goals. The DCFO must ensure proper accounting methods are followed to meet federal, state, and local financial regulations.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in the oversight, direction, and management of all accounting and financial functions, including policies and systems for monitoring financial information, managing budgets, financial statements, forecasting, and providing information to the CFOO.
    • Support all finance work streams ensuring the integrity of financial systems, controls, and reporting.
    • Perform long-term and strategic planning to ensure the financial stability of Acero Schools.
    • Prepare monthly financial statement packages, including creating and posting journal entries, recording transactions, updating fixed asset depreciation, reviewing the general ledger, and other financial reports as necessary.
    • Ensure all internal and external deadlines are met while completing assignments accurately and efficiently.
    • Supervise all finance personnel (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll/Benefits Accounting).
    • Collaborate with Principals, Directors, and Chiefs on financial operations and policies.
    • Evaluate current billing, accounting, and purchasing practices, emphasizing continuous improvements.
    • Own the annual audit, including preparation, oversight, and guidance of all audit documentation and IRS reporting.
    • Oversee cash management across multiple bank accounts and act as the secondary contact with banking institutions.
    • Ensure timely receipt and accounting of deposits.
    • Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Education: Bachelor Degree (or advanced degree) in Business, Accounting, Finance, or closely related field; valid CPA license preferred.
      • At least 5 years experience in Education Finance, including managing and leading a client/customer service-focused team.
      • Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and laws governing public procurement.
      • Previous experience in education and/or nonprofit strongly preferred.
      • Evidence of successful implementation of new processes and systems with limited direction.
      • Ability to work collaboratively with the CFOO, executive leadership team, Principals, and other staff.
      • Proven track record of creating and implementing innovative solutions to meet organizational needs.
      • Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
      • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with multiple projects on various timelines.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to utilize data analysis for innovative solutions.
      • Possess integrity and a high sense of personal and professional ethics.
      • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP standards and FASB.
      • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

        PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
        The nature of the work requires the ability to operate standard business office equipment, communicate, collect, compile, and prepare work documents. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach, stoop, and walk around. Candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. Travel to schools, off-site meetings, and board meetings is required.
        Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended and non-traditional hours to perform job duties and participation in organization-sponsored events and meetings.
